It is possible to restore files and directories that have been deleted if a backup has been made.
In the directory where the files or directories that you are missing are located in, execute the command "df .", eg:
Linux $ df .
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
thasos:/bogus_d/uid
4187328 3195424 991904 77% /bogus_h/uid
IRIX $ df .
Filesystem Type blocks use avail %use Mounted on
thasos:/bogus_d/uid nfs 8374616 6390856 1983760 77 /bogus_h/uid
Then login to the machine indicated in the first column (before the ":", inthe example above "thasos"). From that machine run the executable "dsm" and use the graphical user interface to locate the backup copy of your files and directories and restore them. The same program can be used to archive important files for prolonged periods of time.
